Taunton Armed Forces Day 2019
We had a very large camp here and the public, serving forces and veterans interacted very well with us. The event will be even bigger next year!
Taunton & Pickeridge Golf Club 2019
We were very happy to be asked to put on a display for the golf club’s special D-Day commemoration event, in league with the Royal British Legion. There was a lot of interest and some very kind donations to our cause.
Saunton Sands Devon D-Day 2019
Despite some inclement weather on the Sunday, the organisers were staggered by the sheer numbers of visitors.
Weston-super-Mare Helicopter Museum 2019
The first event of 2019, with displays inside and outside the museum. The weather was kind!
Castletown at War 2019
Braving the cold in Portland Castle! A great display.
Weston War Ag Westonzoyland 2019
A good-sized camp here attracted a lot of visitors and a couple of new joiners to our living history group!
Buckfastleigh – South Devon Railway 2019
New recruits, Daniel and George looking the part as 101st airborne troops.
Norton Fitzwarren Steam Fayre 2019

East Somerset Steam Railway, Cranmore 2019
Adam Surrey, Karen Surrey, Dan Donovan and Cheryl Ludgate enjoy a very hot Bank Holiday weekend at Cranmore
West Somerset Railway 1940s Weekend 2019
The weather was very kind to us again at Bishops Lydeard, for this steam railway event. There was a party of evacuee schoolchildren taken to Watchet and back on the Friday. A large display of living history groups, military vehicles and a full-size Spitfire attracted attention. We were also honoured by a visit from the King and Charles de Gaulle!
Somerset County Show 2019
Our final camp of the year and a weekend of mixed fortunes. Fine Saturday, very wet Sunday and unfortunately a very poor pitch meant we were difficult to find. Time was well-spent circulating amongst the crowd and stallholders, spreading word of the Trust and our forthcoming dance and bring and buy sales.
Autumn Swing Dance 2019, Throgmorton Hall, Dunkeswell
Initial ticket sales were disappointing, but many people turned up on the evening, giving an excellent total of around 90 people. The wonderful Liberty Sisters were great as usual and Gee Coomber provided some fantastic 1940s and 50s dance music between sets. A good deal of money was raised for the defibrillator at Smeatharpe Village Hall.
Aller Green, Upottery – Tree Adoption, 15 August 2020, VJ Day
Our Trust was privileged to be asked by Upottery Parish Council to adopt a flowering crab apple tree. The final spade of the digging-in ceremony was carried out by local MP Neil Parrish.
Originally planned as part of the VE Day+75 celebrations, Covid-19 restrictions prevented this, so it was rearranged for VJ Day+75 instead.
